Pitch, Hit and Run Contest

2009 Pitch, Hit & Run

SAYB’s 2nd Annual PHR Competition Rocks!!

On Saturday, May 2, 2009, Shoreview Area Youth Baseball continued it’s partnership with Major League Baseball while serving as a local host for the Aquafina Pitch, Hit & Run (PHR) competition.

“BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME”

Well, SAYB built it and they came! Eighty baseball players ranging from seven to fourteen years of age came out to showcase their skills at the 2nd Annual SAYB PHR competition. Shoreview area once again demonstrated their love for the game as, for the second consecutive year, SAYB can boast as having hosted the largest local competition in the state to date.

It was evident that the kids were not just out for ribbons, but to compete, and more importantly, PLAY BALL!! It was a day of contests, but also a great time for socializing between players, coaches and parents.  Pictures from the event can be viewed at http://sayb.hardballsystems.com/page/show/83903-pictures-and-video

Our 2nd Annual event was a success due to the collective effort of our association.  I appreciate the SAYB Board for supporting this event for our children.  I would also like to thank Jeff Rholl,  SAYB’s Webmaster, all those unnamed individuals who helped out on Saturday on a spur of the moment where needed, the coaches who chaperoned their teams through the event, and the parents, who took the time to give their child an opportunity to compete. Heartfelt appreciation to Mark Tollander, Scott Langer, Harley Hayden, Mark Simser, and Jon Jepko for their assistance with registration, field set-up, measuring, and scoring the events over a five hour time span.

Finally, there would be no event without the SAYB players. Seeing the love and excitement that these kids have for baseball made the day worthwhile for all of us.
