What Tryout Evaluators Look For
Tryouts can be confusing. When a player hits every ball, but does not make a particular team, parents and players wonder about the results. In an effort to provide education about skills that an evaluator or any coach looks for, SAYB board member Don Roney has been kind enough to develop a web link (below) to provide players and parents with a video and commentary to outline skills that are important in order to be successful in an evaluation process and more importantly to be successful on the baseball field. Although every evaluator may look at different aspects when grading a player, weighting one factor more important than another, this link is very informative and should help with educating players.
Disclaimer: SAYB will post information from any company or program that it deems will assist their players in developing their skills regardless of their affiliation with SAYB.
When Will I Be Notified??
Registration is nearing it's final stages(except for Sr. Big League). Players will be notified of their team placement around the following dates:
- Little League - Instructional, Junior Minor, American/National League- Players called by coaches on or around March 30th.
- Big League- Players notified on or around April 17th

We need your help!
SAYB is the largest youth sports organization in our community, servicing just under 900 kids a year. We have a tremendous need for volunteer support on our board. You do not need to be a baseball expert to serve on the board; just an adult who cares about kids having good experiences and opportunities.
Board meetings are the second Monday of the month at 7 pm at Chippewa Middle School. You will see signs directing you to the correct room. Meetings typically last an hour and a half. Come and see what it is all about.
Who Can Join Shoreview Area Youth Baseball?
Boys and girls ages 5 through 18. First-time registrants must provide a copy of their birth certificate or other official proof of birth date when they register. See registration page for additional age details.
Players age 6-12 youth residing in school districts 621/623/624 are welcome to participate in the SAYB program. Various resident rules apply for the other age groups. See Registration page for more details.
